Independent family run funeral directors
Stockman & Loram
With three local branches across Torbay, family-owned and run funeral director Stockman & Loram puts your needs at the heart of funeral planning. With care, compassion and understanding, we’ll guide you every step of the way, and provide a personal service to create the funeral that’s right for you and your loved one.
Let our family take care of yours
Stockman & Loram is the only independent family-owned Funeral Directors with offices in Brixham and Paignton. With four generations of expertise, the Loram family formally owned several funeral directors in Torbay but today only operate from Stockman & Loram, in Paignton and Brixham. The previous companies (Maunders Funeral Service, Drakes of Torbay and Torbay & District Funeral Service) are now owned by a large national chain.
Ian and Vanessa Loram took over the reigns from Douglas Loram back in 2001.
The business is now run by their sons, Seb and Dom, some 60 years after their
great-grandad 'Pop' and grandfather Douglas Loram started looking after funerals from their premises in Wellswood, Torquay. The company has expanded over the years, with funeral homes in Brixham, Churston Broadway and Preston in Paignton.
In addition to the Loram family, Stockman & Loram has six experienced funeral directors operating within the firm. Stuart Gayton, Robert Hunt, Neil Edwards and Les Down all worked for Douglas prior to his retirement and are very well known and respected across south Devon. Les Down is particularly well known in Teignmouth and Bishopsteignton and often looks after families throughout that area.
We are very proud to be the only independent funeral directors in the area to have three female funeral directors in Vanessa Loram, Elaine Harrison and Kim Palmer, offering families a choice of who looks after the funeral arrangements.
Stockman & Loram ensures that all funeral arrangements are carried out with respect and are tailored to the individual’s wishes. Regardless of whether it is a traditional or more modern funeral, religious or non-religious, we are always committed to providing a fitting tribute for your loved one.
We can assure you that the quality of our service and our knowledge and expertise in the profession will help you through this most difficult time. We offer all the support you need and are here to guide you and hold your hand throughout this very difficult time.

No Service Cremation (No Fuss Funeral)
A local alternative to national providers seen on TV.
Stockman & Loram offer a low cost Direct Cremation from £1,500.00.
A no service cremation is carried out a local crematorium with no mourners present and no funeral service at all.
The cremated remains can be returned to you and our fees cover everything necessary. We don’t charge extra for moving the deceased into our care after hours or from private addresses, in contrast to many other businesses.

Our Service Chapels in Paignton & Brixham
A more intimate venue with no time pressure, our Service Chapels provide
a private space to hold the funeral service.
You can include slideshows and visual tributes, music and whatever content you like. Every funeral is tailored to your wishes.
Holding the full service here can be around £800 less expensive than having a service at Torquay Crematorium.

Green Burials at
Sharpham Meadow
Sharpham Meadow is a stunning natural burial site near Totnes overlooking the River Dart with 180' views over the surrounding south Devon countryside. Butterflies dance over the meadow with Skylarks singing and Kestrels hovering overhead. We've also seen Barn Owls silently floating over the meadow at dusk
You can have a burial here after a service elsewhere, or have the entire service and burial take place at Sharpham. The site caters for full burial and interment of cremated remains too.

Funeral Services at Torquay Crematorium
Torquay Crematorium has restricted service times of up to 40 mins and it currently costs from £1,295 for a service here, in addition to all other funeral directors charges and third party costs.
There are limited choices at this venue as it is not as flexible as some others, so you may wish to consider our Service Chapels, which offer a more relaxed alternative with no time pressure and can reduce the total funeral cost significantly.

Church Funeral Services
We are able to arrange funerals at all Churches for your loved one. We take great pride in liaising with the Church and Clergy, ensuring that the services chosen are compatible with the wider funeral arrangements.
The whole funeral service can take place at Church, or it can be followed by a cremation or burial at another location or in the Churchyard. We are also able to arrange memorial services when the burial or cremation has already taken place.
On the day, we always provide the Church vergers and churchwardens with assistance in setting everything up which makes sure the funeral runs smoothly.

Cremation jewellery and Memorial Items
Stockman & Loram offer a wide range of cremation jewellery and memorial items including fingerprint jewellery, ashes into glass, cremation urns and scattering containers and a varied range of beautiful cremation jewellery from EverWith.
We have a selection on display at our offices or you can download an online brochure by clicking below or by contacting one of our offices.
We are also able to create bespoke imagery on our scattering containers if you wish to use a particular image or use an image of your own.

Funeral Donations with GiftAid
We offer a free service to all families whereby we create an online tribute page which can collect donations with GiftAid in addition to publishing all the important funeral details for you to share.
We partner with MuchLoved to provide you with a completely bespoke page to personalise as you wish. You can add photographs and videos and people can share messages to the family making the page multi-functional as a donation page but also a memorial page.
Most families leave the page active after the funeral however this can be deactivated if you wish.

How Much Does a Funeral Cost?
We offer a bespoke service, making all funerals unique to the specific needs and budget of each family. We provide full breakdown of the costs at the time of your enquiry, or when making the funeral arrangements, which are related to your requests, not based on national averages.
This estimate includes our professional fees, moving your loved one into our care, hearse and staff as required, coffin choice as well as other items chosen such as limousines, orders of service and cremation urns.
We also pay the third parties on your behalf, and these costs can be included within the funeral estimate to keep things easier for you to manage.
