Let our family take care of yours
Stockman & Loram is an independent family-owned Funeral Directors with four generations of expertise. The Loram family formally owned several funeral directors in Torbay but today only operate from Stockman & Loram, in Paignton and Brixham. The previous companies (Maunders Funeral Service, Drakes of Torbay and Torbay & District Funeral Service) are now owned by a large national chain.
Ian and Vanessa Loram took over the reigns from Douglas Loram back in 2001. The business is now run by their sons, Seb and Dom, some 60 years after their great-grandad 'Pop' and grandfather Douglas Loram started looking after funerals from their premises in Wellswood, Torquay. The company has expanded over the years, with funeral homes in Brixham, Churston Broadway and Preston in Paignton.
In addition to the Loram family, Stockman & Loram has six experienced funeral directors operating within the firm. Stuart Gayton, Robert Hunt, Neil Edwards and Les Down all worked for Douglas prior to his retirement and are very well known and respected across south Devon. Les Down is particularly well known in Teignmouth and Bishopsteignton and often looks after families throughout that area.
We are very proud to be the only independent funeral directors in the area to have three female funeral directors in Vanessa Loram, Elaine Harrison and Kim Palmer, offering families a choice of who looks after the funeral arrangements.
Stockman & Loram ensures that all funeral arrangements are carried out with respect and are tailored to the individual’s wishes. Regardless of whether it is a traditional or more modern funeral, religious or non-religious, we are always committed to providing a fitting tribute for your loved one. We can assure you that the quality of our service and our knowledge and expertise in the profession will help you through this most difficult time. We offer all the support you need and are here to guide you and hold your hand throughout this very difficult time.

Your loved one deserves a funeral service that reflects their personality and accomplishments and is a tribute to their life and the love of family and friends. At Stockman & Loram, we don’t offer packaged funeral services. Our family and our funeral directors will work closely with you to create a funeral that will pay a truly fitting tribute. We will organise all necessary arrangements, including moving your loved one into our care, liaising with all third parties, sourcing music, arranging flowers with excellent local florists, creating printed orders for the service and many other products and services. Q. How does a prepaid funeral plan work?A. A prepaid funeral plan allows you to pay for the neccessary elements of a funeral in advance, either for yourself or a loved one. These plans can cover all of the costs associated with a funeral, such as a coffin, funeral director, and collection and delivery of the deceased into our care.
-
Q. What is the difference between a Pure Cremation and a direct cremation?A. Direct cremation is when there is no hearse or limousine with just a very basic coffin. Often referred to as 'Pure Cremation'. Essentially, this is the same thing. A direct cremation involves no funeral service which we look after at a local crematorium.
-
Q. What happens at a green funeral?A. A green funeral is a term often used to describe a ceremony followed by burial in a grave in a woodland or meadowed area, such as Sharpham Meadow burial site. Green funerals often involve environmentally considerate choices such as coffins made from natural materials.
-
Q. How do I choose a good funeral director?A. Choose a reputable funeral director who are members of SAIF www.saif.org.uk
-
Q. How much is the average funeral in the UK?A. Funerals vary in price depending on the type of service, however a funeral in our service chapels would be around £3,200, including all the necessary items.
